After initial trepidation about traveling to South Africa, we found it to be wonderful. We only visited KwaZulu Natal province where Jennifer is studying and found it to be gorgeous and surprisingly familiar looking and amazingly well maintained. Aside from everything being mirror image - driving on the other side, light switches and faucets being opposite and, of course, water draining the other way, it seemed very western. Well dressed people walking along the highways, kombis and pickup trucks packed with people on the road, woman carrying large packages on their heads, speed bumps used everywhere for speed control, monkeys in the parks and baboons in the mountains reminded us we were in Africa.
